I can’t recall anyone (except my wife) wanting to look under my kilt. What I was taught about a kilt & the wearing or not wearing of undergarments goes like this:
Kings on the thrown – nothing underneath.
Queen’s on the thrown – underwear is suppose to be worn.
During the Reign of King George, Soldier in Highland Regiments were inspected by Sr NCO’s who would use the shine on their boots or a mirror suspended on a pace stick to check to ensure their men were properly dressed (or undressed in this case) under the kilt.

Its a curious thing. esp in a culture where you don’t see many kilts & you want to see if they really do go natural or not.
